Australian Institute of Landscape Architects endorses VETASSESS criteria

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has endorsed the VETASSESS skills assessment criteria for the occupation of Landscape Architect.

The endorsement means that landscape architects seeking a skills assessment to migrate to Australia can be assured the assessment criteria are relevant to the needs of Australian employers and industry.

AILA Chief Executive Officer Ben Stockwin said there is strong demand for registered landscape architects. The industry is working to address skills shortages and has roles for qualified overseas candidates.

Employers range from small companies to multi-disciplinary architectural firms that employ landscape architects.

Mr Stockwin said an increasing number of state and local governments and public sector agencies are hiring landscape architects as they seek to incorporate urban green infrastructure into towns and cities.

He said working with VETASSESS on the criteria meant the educational and employment requirements for a skills assessment were up to date and met the needs of the profession.

VETASSESS Executive Director Rob Thomason said working with professional bodies such as AILA gave VETASSESS insights to the skills required for an occupation.

“Professional bodies such as AILA can provide expert knowledge of how the profession operates and the skills required. Their support is invaluable and means that as occupations change, the assessment criteria can be updated so it remains relevant.”
